Multiphase facilities

Multiphase flow is the simultaneous flow of gas, liquid and/or solid phases in different combinations. Multiphase flow are of critical importance to the oil and gas industries. Measurement of multiphase flow is not easy and the methods currently in use are particularly not very accurate. Uncertainties of unacceptably high order have been reported when conventional single-phase flowmeters such as turbine-meters, mass flowmeters are employed for multiphase flow measurement. In the industries, control of multiphase flow is essential for efficiency, quality and profitability.

Multiphase flows contain complex regions of high or low flow velocities, combined with high or low particle concentrations. These different regions require different measurement techniques.

Different facilities were designed and setup at the Multiphase Flow Laboratory to study the multiphase flow phenomena and aid in the development of methods in two-phase flow measurement for different sectors of industry.
