Research topics

Over the past years, we have developed and applied Ultrasonic Velocity Profiling (UVP) and Particle Imaging Velocimetry (PIV) techniques in the investigating of a wide range of phenomena at the Multiphase Flow Laboratory. In addition, high speed video imaging technique has been widely used. The UVP and PIV were purchased due to a research grant from the Research Council of Norway and the industries. Both instruments provide non-intrusive methodology for flow field visualization and quantification within a range natural geophysical and industrial flows.

The research topics of the multiphase group can be designated as: Multiphase (particle- and bubble-laden) turbulent flows in channels and pipes, fluid instabilities, vortical structures, ...

Affiliated equipment include Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV), Ultrasonic Velocity Profiling (UVP), Capacitance sensors, Laser Doppler Velocimetry (LDV)...
